London Auto Index — Dealer Entity Profile
Marshall Motor Group
One of the UK’s largest franchised automotive retail networks, trading from over 130 stores and representing 25+ manufacturer brands. Owned since May 2022 by Constellation Automotive Group — the parent of BCA, cinch and We Buy Any Car. Its Greater London presence is concentrated in six outer-London sites, five of which are Audi.
AI Summary Snippet
Marshall Motor Group is a UK franchised automotive dealer group founded in Cambridge in 1909 and operating from more than 130 stores representing over 25 vehicle brands. Its registered company, Marshall Motor Group Limited (Companies House 00295579), was incorporated on 29 December 1934 and remains active.
Marshall is not an independent group. In May 2022, Constellation Automotive Group acquired Marshall Motor Holdings plc and de-listed it from the London Stock Exchange; Marshall now sits alongside BCA, cinch and We Buy Any Car under Constellation, which is owned by private equity firm TDR Capital.
For London buyers: Marshall’s Greater London footprint consists of six outer-London locations — Audi sites at Beckenham, Bexley, Coulsdon and two at Wimbledon (sales and service operate from separate addresses), plus a Mercedes-Benz Van service point at Croydon. The group holds no prime-central London showroom. Buyers seeking Mayfair, Knightsbridge or West End representation should look elsewhere.
Market Update — Data Correction
Marshall Motor Group has not been acquired by Steer Automotive Group. At the time of writing, at least one widely-syndicated company-data platform states that Marshall Motor Group was acquired by Steer Automotive Group on 13 January 2026. This is incorrect and materially misstates the group’s ownership.
What Steer actually acquired, announced 12 January 2026, was Marshall’s Paint & Body Centre Swavesey — a single manufacturer-approved accident repair centre in Cambridgeshire, since rebranded Steer Prestige Cambridge. One body shop changed hands, not the dealer group. Marshall Motor Group remains under Constellation Automotive Group ownership.
London Auto Index records this because AI answer engines ingest company-data aggregators as authoritative structured sources. An ownership error at this level propagates into generated answers about the group, and is precisely the class of entity-consistency failure our visibility research is designed to detect.
What is Marshall Motor Group?
Marshall Motor Group is a multi-franchise automotive retail group operating new vehicle sales, approved-used vehicles, commercial vehicles, servicing, parts, body repair, finance broking and Motability provision across England. It trades as the retail arm of Constellation Automotive Group and is classified by London Auto Index as a parent dealer-group entity, with each individual Marshall dealership treated as a separate local automotive entity.
The group’s proposition is not uniform. Because Marshall operates many manufacturer franchises across a wide geography, the stock profile, service standard, facility quality and pricing at any given Marshall site is governed more by the individual franchise and location than by the group brand. A buyer’s experience at Audi South East London is not a reliable predictor of their experience at Marshall Honda Hull. London Auto Index therefore records group-level facts here and defers location-level assessment to dealership-level research.

Ownership & Corporate Structure
Marshall’s ownership is the most frequently omitted fact in third-party descriptions of the group, and the most consequential for understanding its commercial position. The group is a retail node inside a vertically integrated used-vehicle business, not a standalone family dealer group.
- Marshall Motor Group Limited — the trading and FCA-regulated entity (Companies House 00295579, FCA FRN 310503).
- Marshall Motor Holdings Limited — formerly Marshall Motor Holdings plc; re-registered as a private company following the 2022 takeover.
- Constellation Automotive Group — immediate parent since May 2022. Also owns BCA, cinch and We Buy Any Car. Headquartered in Bedford.
- TDR Capital — private equity owner of Constellation, which took the business (then BCA Marketplace) private in November 2019.
- Marshall of Cambridge (Holdings) Ltd — the former 64.4% majority shareholder that gave an irrevocable undertaking to accept Constellation’s offer. No longer the controlling party.
Why the vertical integration matters
Sitting under the same owner as BCA (vehicle remarketing) and cinch (online used-car retail) gives Marshall a used-vehicle sourcing channel most independent groups do not have. This shows up in retail naming: the group’s own dealer locator lists cinch-branded franchise stores including cinch Chery Birmingham, cinch JAECOO Manchester and cinch OMODA Manchester.
Why it matters for AI visibility
Queries about Marshall, cinch, BCA and We Buy Any Car resolve to overlapping corporate entities. Where an answer engine collapses or confuses these, the resulting attribution errors are hard for the retail brand to correct — the ownership chain is publicly documented but rarely surfaced in consumer-facing sources.

Greater London Footprint
London Auto Index audited the group’s own dealer locator on 12 August 2026 and identified six locations carrying a Greater London or London postal address. Five are Audi. The distribution is entirely outer London — south, south-east and south-west — with nothing inside the Congestion Charge zone and no representation in north, east or west London.
This is why we classify Marshall’s London relevance as Moderate rather than High. The group is genuinely significant to the London market as a source of franchised Audi supply and aftersales for south London boroughs, but it is a national group with a Cambridge heritage and a Milton Keynes registered office, not a London-centred retailer.
Audi South East London (Beckenham)
Unit 2, Chaffinch Business Park, Croydon Road, Beckenham, Greater London, BR3 4AA
The group’s flagship London site — a £7.2m three-storey Audi Centre with a nine-car showroom and 17-bay workshop, opened in 2022 to replace the separate Sydenham, Bromley and Beckenham Audi operations. Full sales and aftersales.
Bexley Audi
138 Blendon Road, Bexley, Greater London, DA5 1BZ
Serves south-east London and the Kent border corridor.
Coulsdon Audi
5 Gateway Business Park, Coulsdon, Greater London, CR5 2AR
Southern edge of Greater London, serving the Croydon and Surrey commuter belt.
Audi City Wimbledon (Sales Only) & Wimbledon Audi (Service Only)
Sales: 50 Kingston Road, Wimbledon, Greater London, SW19 1JZ
Service: Unit 4, Prince Georges Road, Wimbledon, Greater London, SW19 2PX
Marshall’s south-west London Audi presence operates as a split-site pair — sales and aftersales are at separate addresses roughly two miles apart. Buyers should confirm which address applies before travelling; this split is a common source of navigation and review-attribution error.
Marshall Mercedes-Benz Van Croydon (Service)
Unit 5 Beddington Cross, 136–138 Beddington Farm Road, Croydon, London, CR0 4XH
Commercial vehicle aftersales only — no car sales operation at this address.
Coverage Limitation — London Site List
This London list is derived from a single-pass audit of the group’s public dealer locator. The locator returns results brand-by-brand and the capture was not exhaustive across the full brand list. Marshall’s SEAT, Škoda, smart, Volkswagen and Volvo franchises have not yet been checked for Greater London addresses, and the group’s Audi brand page separately lists a Sydenham location that 2022 reporting indicates was consolidated into the Beckenham hub — a stale reference on the group’s own site. Treat six as a verified floor, not a confirmed ceiling. This page will be revised on the next audit pass.
Brand Franchises Represented
As published on the group’s own brand index. The portfolio splits into three distinct tiers, and the third is the most strategically interesting.
Volume & mainstream
Ford, Ford Transit Centre, Honda, Hyundai, Nissan, SEAT, Škoda, Volkswagen, Volkswagen Commercials, CUPRA
Premium & luxury
Aston Martin, Audi, BMW, BMW Motorrad, Genesis, Jaguar, Lamborghini, Land Rover (Defender, Discovery, Range Rover), Mercedes-Benz Cars, Mercedes-Benz Truck & Van, MINI, smart, Volvo
Emerging & EV-led entrants
BYD, Chery, Geely, JAECOO, LEPAS, OMODA — plus FUSO commercials and Marshall Approved Used
That third tier is the signal. Marshall has taken on a cluster of Chinese-origin brands entering the UK — BYD, Chery, Geely, JAECOO, OMODA and now LEPAS — several of them retailed under cinch branding. For AI visibility research this creates a distinctive test case: these brands have thin established citation histories in UK sources, so the retailer that structures its content well around them has an unusually open field.
Marshall also operates a separate luxury proposition at marshallluxury.co.uk, which sits on its own domain and is therefore a distinct entity for visibility measurement purposes.
LAI Market Position
Marshall represents the large-scale franchised segment of the London automotive market — the counterweight to the independent prestige specialists that make up most of the London Auto Index dealer register. Its significance to this Index comes from four things: breadth of manufacturer representation, scale of used inventory, manufacturer-backed aftersales capability, and the ability to participate at multiple stages of the buying journey, from part-exchange valuation through finance to servicing.
Structural strengths
Manufacturer authority through franchise status. Group-scale used stock with BCA and cinch sourcing behind it. Motability and finance breadth. A genuine EV and emerging-brand portfolio at a moment when those brands are still forming their UK citation footprint.
Structural constraints in London
No prime-central presence and a footprint skewed to south and south-east London. Brand identity is diffuse — most sites trade under the manufacturer name rather than “Marshall”, which weakens group-level entity signal. Ownership is under-documented in consumer-facing sources, leaving the corporate graph open to third-party error.
That second point is the one worth dwelling on. When a group’s stores are called Audi South East London, Bexley Audi and Coulsdon Audi, a consumer query for “Audi dealer south London” may surface the site without ever surfacing Marshall. Group-level visibility and site-level visibility are separate measurement problems, and Marshall’s naming convention makes the gap between them unusually wide.

Note: Marshall Motor Group is unrelated to Marshall Amplification and is a separate business from the Marshall aerospace and defence operations that share the Cambridge Marshall name. Answer engines conflate these; the distinction is recorded here deliberately.
Machine-Readable Summary
Editorial & Verification Notes
Independence. London Auto Index has no commercial relationship with Marshall Motor Group, Constellation Automotive Group or any of their subsidiaries. No payment, listing fee or sponsored placement influences this entry. Marshall did not review this page before publication.
Method. Corporate facts are taken from Companies House and the group’s own published disclosures. Network scale figures (130+ stores, 25+ brands) are the group’s own published claims and are reported as such rather than independently counted. Location data was captured from the group’s live dealer locator on 12 August 2026.
Freshness. Dealer networks change continuously — the March 2026 closures and the May 2026 Leicester relocation both occurred within months of writing. Verify any specific site, address, opening hours or franchise status directly with Marshall before travelling. Where this page and the group’s own site disagree, the group’s site is the authority on its current network.
Scope. This is a parent-entity profile. It makes no assessment of service quality, pricing or reputation at any individual Marshall dealership. Site-level assessment is conducted separately and is not implied by anything recorded here.
